Project zomboid boiling water

Currently trying to sterilize some rags so I don't die from blood loss. I already have the wounds bandaged but I want to be prepared for them to get dirty. How do you boil water? I have a saucepan full of it but I have no idea how to work the stove-top. I can only turn the oven on and put the saucepan inside of it. Is there a way to use the burners to put the pot ontop of the stove?.

In a recent update, the vanilla game does not let you boil water in a plastic bottle over a fire, oven or Bbq. You can use a metal bucket, teapot, saucepan, anything metal.
