Jun 17, 2020 · Well this must be a 2006 thing with the 4.6 Northstar because on the Cadillac forums the 4.6 engine is said to be far better from 2003 on up with much improved head bolt and intake/head gasket design.After reading here and advice from others, I am worried about the gasket problems with the Northstar engine. Dealer offered a pretty much full package protection warranty for $2400 ( I negotiated this down about $300 ). This covered all gaskets, plus just about everything else on the car. I declined at time of sale, but I can buy it within 30 days.As for what the common issues are, an intake gasket isn't out of the question should the car be ill maintained. Head gaskets can be a problem too, but again, it all depends on how the car has been treated in life.
